We did a tour of Ireland a few years ago from Limerick to Galway, the bus drop off and pick up points, After a day in the area of Limerick city we went south to Cork then west along the coast to Baltimore and ferry to Schull then north to Bantry, and Kenmare. From Kenmare we took the Kenmare old road over the mountains to Killarney hence on to Castleisland, Listowell to Tarbet car ferry then follow Shannon estuary and to Ennis, Gort, Kilgorgan, and three nights on Connemara before returning to Galway. We tended to keep to the quieter roads and avoided the most of the Ring of Kerry as it was busy at that time. We stayed mainly at B&B’s which were part of a group named Friendly Families of Ireland.
